Lesson Plans and Ideas

Working as an Auxiliar of Conversation I have had the ability to plan and use my own lessons to supplement the core lessons that we work with in the classroom. I have thought out ideas of how to get kids connected to the language and for them to think more in depth of their experience in school.

First Grade Lessons

Focuses and Target Goals

I spend the majority of my time at school working with First Grade. Here I am set up with two classes of students with around 15 students per section. I meet each class throughout the day and week and cover English, Social Sciences, and Life Science classes. I am teamed up with a partner teacher who leads the class and I implement additional games and activities to enforce the subject matter.

About Me

Exploring Vocabulary to Self Descriptions

Earlier lessons in the year consisted of learning vocabulary to describe students physical appearance based on adjectives and vocabulary. One major activity that we focused on and I aided with was repetition of the body parts. First exposing students to Children's songs such as "Head, Shoulders,Knees, and Toes."Also providing students with visual images and aides to reinforce their learning.
Using the curriculum as our driving enforcer we practiced pages daily and workbook excercises. Taking breaks to play "Simon Says" to reinforce the vocabulary and to get students out of their seats.

Guess Who

Written Activity to enforce Physical Traits

With my students I created an activity where we looked at our physical traits once more. Now focusing on the written aspect of it and utilizing vocabulary of additional units dealing with favorite things and items. I was able to aide students with their exploration of themselves. Each student made a card as a game piece where they had to identify their traits and once completed we would play a class whole game of "Guess Who" Students read cards of their peers and had to guess who was who when it came to their information. They loved the activity and brought in a new way of interacting with one another in English.

Strike a Pose Fashion Show

Identifying Clothing and Themselves

We tied everything back together with this at the end of the year activity where students brought in items of clothing and had to address themselves with "I am" this process was built on prior lessons of who they were as individuals and what and who they are. Students loved to walk down the Run Way and Strike a Pose. Each sharing what items of clothing that they had on.

Second/Third Grade Lessons

Focuses and Target Goals

When I am not working with First Grade I find myself in the Second and Third Grade Classrooms where I work with the individual teachers and plan lessons. I am set up with two classes of students with around 15 students per section. I meet each class throughout the day and week and cover English, Social Sciences, and Life Science classes.

Questions

Oral Questions drive the class in communication and understanding of the material. With every core subject we are able to use questions such as these to reinforce the lessons and ideas. Students will take control for a moment of the class and ask their peers questions pertaining to the subject matter. Allowing them to connect to one another in English and to themselves. They find success with continued practice of the vocabulary.

Applying Questions with Creative Comics

Students were asked to create a Comic Strip using questions and ideas. Each strip was unique and students challenged themselves to respond to their own questions .
